Melita Johnston is a colourist abstract expressionist artist. She paints in the highest quality acrylics on archival Museum stretched canvas. Multiply layers are painted by brush and palate knife. The paintings are unique, fresh and individual works.


Melita looks at light, time, and the natural world. The way we initiate memories and desire from colour and images. Time - its season, weather and power on personal history and stories.

Melita Johnston was born in 1965. Her home town is the lovely rural town of Geraldine. She attended the local High School and then Otago University, Dunedin, achieving a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. She has been painti
ng actively since the mid 1990‘s.

Melita lives in the beautiful town of Waimate in the South Island of New Zealand.
